What is Academic Library:- The library associated with an educational institution is called an Academic library. An educational institution is one in which formal education is imparted to the students and work of study and research is done. Students complete a particular course according to a particular course. Successful students are awarded certificates or degrees based on the exam.
The library which is associated with such educational institutions is an educational library like School Library, College Library, University Library, etc.
These
libraries help in fulfilling the purpose of their parent educational
institution. The size, shape, collection, functions, and services of these
libraries are based on the nature of the ancestral institution.
An educational institution cannot be imagined without a library. Educational
institutions are the only institutions through which educational institutions
can carry out the best work of teaching.

Types of Academic or Educational Library
The academic library is basically of three types:
1. School
Library - The library which is associated with a
school is called the school library. First of all the Radha Krishnan Commission gave importance to the Library in school education in 1948.
Such as Government Higher Secondary School Library, D.A.V. School Library, District Higher Secondary School Library, etc.
2. College
Library - The college to which the library is affiliated is called the library
of that college.
The college
is an institution providing higher education? The approach to study in college
is analytical. Therefore it becomes absolutely necessary to use the college
library in the college.
Post-Independence,
due to generous grants from the University Grants Commission, there has been a lot of development of college colleges and university colleges in India.
Along with
the book grant, building grant, furniture grant, the commission has also given
equivalent level and pay scale of teachers to the library employees, due to
which the social level of the library has also increased:
Objectives of the college libraries are as follows
1. To assist
in making the academic programs of the affiliated college a success.
2. To make
the readers aware of the depth of various types of knowledge.
3. Preparing
students for entry into various professions.
4. To meet
the study, research, and requirements of the students and teachers.
5.
Preparation of civilized, cultured, and knowledgeable citizens, etc.
Functions: A
college library has the following functions:
1. To assist
the paternal institution in completing its academic work.
2. To
select, acquire, present, and arrange the course material related to the
subjects being studied in the college.
3. To meet
the study, teaching, and research needs of students, teachers, and researchers.
4. To train
the readers in the library usage.
5. Exchange
of books.
6. To help
in using reference texts and library catalog for searching textual content.
7. Compiling
Reading Lists.
8.
Preparation of lists of new books.
9.
Reservation of documents etc.
Services: The college library provides the following services to the readers.

Interlibrary exchange services

Reference services
V.
Reprographic service
vi.
Indexing, Abstracting Services
vii. Open
access system service etc.
3.
University Libraries: Since India is a developing country, Indian universities
are expected to educate the citizens of their country who can become citizens
aware of the progress and service of their country.
In addition
to the education, graduation, postgraduate, and professional level of research
in universities, research work is also done.
The
functions of a university cannot be complete without the university library
because the university is an important integral part of the library.
Due to the
multifaceted activities of the university, the utility of the university
library to meet the needs of the readers have increased a lot today.
Conclusion:
A number of commissions and committees like Radhakrishnan, Mudaliar Commission,
Kothari Commission, Raj Committee, etc. have been recognized for the
educational libraries, in the field of education. And have made good
recommendations, but no conduct has been done on these recommendations, these
recommendations have remained only.
Today, the situation is that, except for a few exceptions, there is neither sufficient
material nor adequate building and library staff in the academic libraries.
If efficient
and effective services are to be provided in educational institutions, then the
suggestions given above have to be implemented, and only then will the academic the library becomes an ideal library.
