Definitions of Management- Management is such a process of planning, organization, direction, and control by which such coordination can be done in the physical resources and human endeavors of the institution." So that the goals and objectives of the organization can be fulfilled.
Humans
established many institutions and organizations for their growing needs. The
need for efficient management for the successful running of these organizations
and institutions started to be felt.
Today,
whether a person works in a school, university, factory, farm, industry, etc.,
he works in a group.
The progress of that organization depends on the
efficiency of those people, so getting it done is also an art. The arrangement
is to take complete work from those who work according to their ability.
There is no consensus among scholars in terms of the definition of management. Therefore,
no universal definition can be given. As many scholars of this, they expressed
their different views in this context.
According to W. E. Glveek- "Effective use of human and material means is the management for achieving the objectives of the institution."
According to Henri fayol- "The intention of management is to forecast and organize planning, directing, and controlling."
According to Mary Parker Follett -"Management is the art of getting people to work."
According to Ross Moore- "Managing means taking decisions."
The word management is originated in the
twentieth century. In this context, it is said that "as early as the 19th
century was industrialization, similarly to the management of the 20th century.
There was no
recognition of the word management until 1900 AD. In 1910, the first"
scientific management "by Louis Britain. The term was used. The use of
management in library science came after 1950 AD.

There are no
universal principles of management that can be considered definitive because as
Macy has indicated, the theory of management is presumably just conclusions
that is based on experience.
Henry Fayol
first proposed fourteen major principles of management, which are as follows:
1. Division
of work - The principle of division of work is the principle of specialization
of labor. According to Phyol, this increases efficiency and productivity. There
are different types of functions in the library. Therefore, in this area also
this theory of management proves useful.
2. Authority
and Responsibility - There is a message of the principle that there should be
enough balance between power and obligations because power and responsibilities
are interlinked. In an organization, the person who is held responsible for the
work should have the full right to the result of his actions. This principle is
also fully applied to library science.
3.
Discipline - Discipline is an essential principle for the success of any
institution, this principle also applies to the library. This principle
dictates that all employees should voluntarily follow the orders of their
officers. The best ways to establish discipline are:
(A) Good
inspection at each level
(B) clear
knowledge of work policies to employees
(C)
Judicious use of penal learning.
4 Unity of
command - According to this principle, one should be accountable to a superior
officer and his order are paramount.
5. Unity of
direction - According to this principle of employees

be a plan and leadership.
6. Principle
of subordination of individual interest to general interest rather than
personal interest - This principle states that personal interest should be
below the interest of the institution. The following points are necessary for
the success of this theory
(A)
Perseverance and demonstration of good examples by the officers.
(B) There
should be a fair and clear agreement between the managers and the employees.
(C)
Continuous inspection.
7. Principle
of remuneration of personnel - This principle states that an equally qualified
employee should get the same. If this does not happen, dissatisfaction
increases and functionality decreases.

Centralization - Centralization means the gathering of power in one place.
Where the authority to make decisions in the institution is in the hands of the
officials, there is a situation of centralization and on the contrary, if the
right to take a decision is between the subordinates, then there is a situation
of decentralization.
According to
Payol- "The decision-making authority in the institution should neither be
more centralized nor decentralized." There should be a balance between the
two. For example, the work of book selection in the library should be
decentralized and focused on ordering.
9. The principle of Scalar Chain -
shows the sequence of simplicity in the organization. Accordingly, the order
should come from the top-down and the information suggestion appeal should go
down from the top.
10. Order - According to this
principle, every person or thing should live in its place. The employee who is
qualified in the library should be given the same work.
11. Equity - According to this principle, officers should have an attitude of equality in dealing with
different employees.
12. Stability in tenure - According to
this principle, the tenure of employees should be permanent. Repeated transfers
hamper work.
13. Initiative employees should be
encouraged to show readiness in work, for this they should also get an incentive
remuneration.
14. Principle of Group - Officers
should create an environment that is harmonious. For this, it is necessary that
the senior officer in the library should have the qualities of equality,
readiness, unity of order, leadership, etc.
